2003 saw a change of organiser and a new
venue. This year Janet Clark arranged the National Rally at
the Milton Keynes Museum.
We had set off Friday Afternoon, by this time the
temperature had begun to slowly rise. In previous years I
learned in that the weather at National Rallies has a habit
of being either or. So I drove down to Milton Keynes in
jeans (what a mistake) but I had packed shorts as well.
We managed to get lost in the middle of some village
somewhere, luckily for us, Jason Heaton knew where he was
going (or so he told us!!) and we followed him in, after
turning round in a gate way. By this time, Chris Jones,
George Cross, Ken Nicolle, and Stuart Morris were all
pitching tents and getting set up for the weekend. We
however, had decided to book into the luxury of a nearby
hotel. So we left BONK with George, and took K-C in an
attempt to find the hotel. I'd say we managed well, even
though there were more than 4 roundabouts to contend with.
Janet certainly picked the best weekend for weather, I
personally found it too hot, and spent most of my time under
a tree trying to keep the sun off me. This particular
weekend the highest temperature recorded was 38.5oc! So I
didn't get to look around the museum. However I did hear
some very positive feedback.
This year our newly purchased Estate won Third place in the
Mk3 class, making two very happy people. Despite the
paintwork showing signs of wear in places, and a set of
carpets donated from K-C's spares bin. But she did shine!
It was nice to see everyone again, and I hope that the event
in 2004 will bring yet more faces, old and new together. The
only problem with the journey home was being caught in a
torrential thunderstorm on the way home, and the traffic on
the M1 was reduced to 10mph because no-one could cope with
the amount of rain pouring from the sky. |
