Well what a celebration it was! Forty
years since the first 1100 rolled off the production line.
We were spoilt with the number of cars that turned up, and
the weather holding out ALL weekend. We had the usual
judging etc, but I think we also had some good characters,
and not forgetting their cars at the event. There was Chris,
Ken & Chloe, Evan, Robbie, myself, Dave, Janet, and Lizzie
Whippet. For those of you who don't know, regulars from the
MG Mailing list.
Well in our judging category there was some tough
competition, I honestly thought K-C didn't have a chance
after all she isn't the best Mk2 around, and I don't think
she ever will be. To my amazement K-C was awarded third
place by the judges, an excellent choice if I may say so! I
think all of that cleaning, and touching up helped impress
the judges along with a few bits that were done to tidy her
"image".
Also this weekend the "Droop Snoop" car was officially seen
in public again after years of being hidden away in the
depths of the Heritage Motor Museum. Regular visitors to the
site would have seen glimpses of the car, and on Keith
Adam's Austin-Rover site. Roy Maskrey took the time to give
us a demonstration of how the front end would work on impact
with a pedestrian.
Trevor Jones was busy supplying parts of various
description, and doing a sterling job of it too! After all
at the AGM he was appointed as the Spares Secretary -
something which was well deserved.
I think I speak for a huge number of visitors that the event
was very well planned and of course well worth the visit.
In closing, I'd like to think that in another forty years we
will be celebrating 80 years of the 1100. We'll have to wait
and see.
