  MG 1100 - Sports sedan

By the end of 1962, only two months after the launch of the MG 1100 in the UK, BMC started exporting the MG 1100 to US and would be sold as the MG Sports Sedan.

The MG Sports Sedan was available as either a two door or four door. However, the four door version was sold is lesser numbers. The two door bodywork would not be seen in the UK until 1968 when the Mk2 models became available.

The MG Sports Sedan. This press picture was, however, taken in the UK. Hence the UK registration plate. It would have been a rarity in the UK at the time, as two door bodywork wasn't available until 1968.

The MG Sports Sedan was intended to give dealers selling power to outsell the VW Beetle, however over the five years the MG was sold it only manage to attract 35,000 sales.

When BMC axed the MG Sports Sedan in 1967, there was a void which needed filling. Dealers wanted a car that was specifically aimed at the American market, and would give American drivers what they wanted. As a result the Austin 1100 was available for a short time, before the Austin America was launched in 1968.
