The Austin Apache has very
distinctive front end styling. The styling is very similar to
that of Triumphs. The square headlamps give some finishing to
the styling. The grille is smaller than that fitted to the
standard ADO16. |
The engine bay on the Apache is
similar to the standard ADO16. The only details that were
noticeable on closer inspection was the fact that all Lucas
items were re-branded using a Spanish equivalent. |

The rear end had been taken from
a Triumph and grafted on to the standard ADO16 cabin. Or so it
seems. The boot is squared off, and the back is higher. By
fitting vents in the rear it allowed better circulation through
the cabin. |
Instead of having the name
plate on the rear of the car, the Apache had its name plate on
each side of the rear wing. The only name on the rear would the
be "Austin" makers plate. |

This particular Apache is fitted with the Mk3 dashboard. Not a
favourite of mine. However with the rear of the interior it
looks good. The steering wheel is a modification but its very
similar to the 1300GT wheel. |
The styling of the seats is
somewhat different to the standard ADO16. |
 |
|
 |
The door panels are trimmed in
the same style as the seats. the only thing that strikes as
being strange is that the arm rests are a different colour to
the rest of the panel. In a standard ADO16 these would be the
same colour as the door panels. Elasticated pockets are included
as in MG, Wolseley and GT's. |
At a quick glance you'd think
that this was a Triumph. The rear styling is very clean, and
quite tidy. The rear light clusters are shaped well to fit the
valance. The chrome finishing that runs around rear wings, and
boot lid neaten up the appearance. |
